Fourth edition of the Giro d'Italia of the CPP

The fourth edition of the Giro d’Italia of the CPP
The 4th edition of the Giro d’Italia for Paediatric Palliative Care stopped in Florence on May 28th with the Conference “Palliative Paediatric Care tells its Story” organized by the Casa Marta Foundation in collaboration with the AOU Meyer.
“Pediatric Palliative Care tells its story”
“Pediatric Palliative Care tells its story” With this title, on May 28, 2025, the Meyer Health Campus hosted the meeting included among the Tuscan stages of the Giro d’Italia delle Cure Palliative Pediatriche (CPP), a national awareness and information campaign coordinated by the Maruzza Foundation, now in its fourth edition.
The day, the result of the commitment of Andrea Messeri and Cristina Beltrami, was opened by the Health Director, Emanuele Gori, and moderated by Francesca Menegazzo, head of Hygiene and Hospital Organization.
The story began with the speech by Alessandro Monaci on the reasons that led to the organization of the Giro CPP and the organization of the stages also in Tuscany. The word then passed to Fabio Borrometi who underlined how the multidimensional approach to the needs of the minor and his family represents an advantage in the treatment path, sometimes lasting decades, which goes from the diagnosis of incurability to the advanced and terminal stages of the disease.
Then it was Maria Chiara Albini’s turn to focus her speech on the specificity of caring for children with complex chronic diseases and how parents are trained before discharge.
The audience was moved by the speech by Benedetta Fantugini, President of the Casa Marta Foundation, who in the last report of the morning illustrated the path, both personal and of the Foundation, that led to the creation of Casa Marta, the new structure designed to accommodate families at various times: in the transition between hospital and home, in periodic check-ups, for relief hospitalizations and, if necessary, making themselves available in the final period of their child’s life.
In the final summary, the key concepts mentioned several times by the speakers were underlined: there is still a lot to do to make CPPs known and develop an efficient Network, the path ahead of us is traced and passes through research, training, awareness and, above all, the obligation to satisfy the multiple needs (health, social, economic, spiritual) of families who face such complex challenges.
The morning concluded with a visit by speakers and moderators to Casa Marta, now close to opening.

This year's invitation is: "Become PalliAttivo"
Also in 2025, the Giro d’Italia delle Cure Palliative Pediatriche stopped in Florence.
This year’s theme, “Become PalliAttivo”, is the appeal to become promoters of correct information and a culture of conscious care. It means becoming attentive, informed and supportive citizens, capable of supporting and understanding the value of pediatric palliative care and the role of those who, every day, take care of children with incurable diseases.
The Maruzza Foundation, committed to promoting pediatric palliative care for over 25 years, inaugurated the IV edition of the Giro d’Italia delle Cure Palliative Pediatriche (GCPP) on May 15 in Padua and which will end in Palermo on June 15.
After the great success of the first three editions – with over 45,000 participants, 166 events in 17 Regions and the involvement of more than 220 associations – the 2025 edition is even richer and more widespread across the country.
